The Citroen C3 Aircross will soon be another competitor in India’s small SUV market. As a stretched-out version of the C3 hatchback, it has many traits with that car. Still, Citroen has made sure that both stand out in their own ways by giving the C3 Aircross some changes. Let’s see what they are:
A New Style
Until now, Citroen only sold two cars in India: the C3 and the C5 Aircross. These cars were at opposite ends of the price range. The C3 Aircross, which will be in the middle of the two, seems to have taken design ideas from both types. Even though it has split LED DRLs like the C3, the SUV now has a bigger and wider hood. Its bottom half of the front bumper reminds me of the C5 Aircross’s.
From the sides, you can see that the hatchback is much smaller than the SUV, which has a longer length. At the back, the C3 Aircross has the same C-shaped headlights as the C3, but they now have a link between them. The C3 Aircross also has two-tone roof choices. It’s also wider, with a bigger track that’s better for the SUV.
Interior and features
The C3 hatchback has a black interior with an orange insert in the dashboard, but the C3 Aircross has a more adult black and beige interior with a brown trim on the dashboard.
The list of features is almost the same as that of the C3 hatchback, but the C3 Aircross has a 7-inch fully digital driver’s display and AC vents on the roof. Some of the same features are a 10.2-inch tablet, manual air conditioning, dual airbags, and a reversing camera.
An extra row of seats
The main difference between the C3 and the C3 Aircross is that the C3 Aircross has the choice of a seven-seater layout, with the third row of seats. Like the Renault Triber, the Citroen SUV’s third row seats can be taken out to make a trunk that can hold more than 500 litres. The company will also make a 5-seater version of the SUV with some different features.
A Longer Footprint
With the choice of three rows of seats, the C3 Aircross is much longer than the C3 hatchback. The SUV is generally more than 300mm longer, and its wheelbase is 100mm longer than that of the C3.
One (Change) In The Powertrain
Citroen’s C3 car comes with two kinds of gasoline engines: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated unit with 82 horsepower and 115 Newton-meters of torque and a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine with 110 horsepower and 190 Newton-meters of torque. The first has a 5-speed MT, while the second has a 6-speed MT.
The SUV, on the other hand, will only get the turbo-petrol engine from the C3 with the same manual drive. Like the hatchback, the C3 Aircross is likely to have an automatic transmission choice in the future.
The C3 Aircross SUV is set to hit the market in June or August, with an estimated starting price of Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
