Renault has officially confirmed the return of its iconic SUV — the Renault Duster — to the Indian market. The new-generation model will make its debut on January 26, 2026, marking the revival of the SUV that originally kick-started India’s midsize SUV segment back in 2012.
The third-generation Renault Duster has already been unveiled for global markets, and while the India-spec version will share its platform and design language, it will receive a few market-specific tweaks to suit local tastes and regulations.
2026 Renault Duster Exterior Design: Rugged Yet Modern
The upcoming Duster has been completely redesigned while retaining the SUV’s tough, adventurous DNA. The new model sports a muscular stance with flared fenders, thick body cladding, and a squared-off profile that emphasizes its off-road character.
Up front, the sleek LED headlamps are integrated into a bold grille with spaced-out Renault lettering. The sculpted bonnet, wide air dams, and silver skid plate underline its strong SUV identity.
In profile, the chunky wheel arches, cladded doors, and diamond-cut alloy wheels reinforce its rugged appeal. The window line continues to hint at the classic Duster silhouette.
At the rear, expect C-shaped LED tail-lamps, a dual-tone bumper with heavy cladding, a roof-mounted spoiler, and functional roof rails — all combining to give it a purposeful, outdoorsy look. The global model measures around 4.3 metres in length, with a 2.6-metre wheelbase, which should translate to generous cabin space.
2026 Renault Duster Interior and Features: Tech-Packed and Functional
Inside, the new Duster will follow a rugged yet premium cabin theme, featuring a layered dashboard design and angular styling elements. The India-spec version is expected to mirror the international model, offering a blend of practicality and modern tech.
Feature highlights are likely to include:
-
10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
-
7-inch digital instrument cluster
-
Wireless charging pad
-
Arkamys 3D sound system
-
Automatic climate control
-
360-degree camera
-
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) — expected to debut on a Renault India model for the first time
With a focus on both comfort and durability, Renault aims to strike a balance between sophistication and SUV ruggedness.
2026 Renault Duster Engine, Gearbox, and Hybrid Plans
Initially, the India-spec Duster will launch with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, expected to deliver around 156hp, paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic.
Later, Renault is expected to introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine and two electric motors, producing a combined output of around 140hp with an e-CVT transmission.
While previous generations of the Duster offered diesel and AWD options, Renault is unlikely to bring those back due to higher costs and tightening emission norms. However, a hybrid variant with an electric rear axle could serve as an eco-friendly alternative to AWD.
2026 Renault Duster Price and Rivals in India
The new Duster is expected to be priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and powertrain. This places it squarely in the competitive midsize SUV segment, where it will go up against:
-
Hyundai Creta
-
Kia Seltos
-
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
-
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
-
Volkswagen Taigun
-
Skoda Kushaq
-
Honda Elevate
-
MG Astor
-
Tata Curvv and Tata Sierra (upcoming)
Renault Duster in India: A Legacy Reborn
Launched in 2012, the first-generation Renault Duster revolutionised India’s SUV market, offering car-like comfort with SUV practicality. It became an instant hit, with over 40,000 units sold in its first year.
The Duster was available with both petrol and diesel engines, and later even offered an AWD diesel variant — a rarity in its segment. A mild facelift arrived in 2019, and in 2020, the Duster gained a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, though the diesel was discontinued post-BS6.
With its 2026 comeback, Renault aims to recapture the spirit that made the original Duster a household name — now with modern technology, enhanced safety, and electrified powertrains.
